So what do you think are private servers for games like World of Warcraft wrong or right?
When you look at it you can say both depends whose side you take.
On one side they offer players that don't have the money for the monthly fee a chance to enjoy a great game that otherwise they couldn't.Posted Image
They give them a chance to meet new people and make new friends because most of these games are MMORPGs.

Now on the other side they steal the players that have the money to pay from Blizzard and that way they damage the company.Posted Image
But you can also look at them like a free advertisement for Blizzard because the private servers never function 100% properly like the original does so a lot of players go to Blizzard after they taste the gameplay.Posted Image

So what's your opinion?
Let me hear it I'm really interested.

Well, I agree with you. Private servers give a chance to play a game for free for those who simply cannot afford to pay to play. It is also a great way to advertise the game as you said since most people usually try out a game using a private server and move on to the real experience if it is worth it. Now, if private servers are left active, the gaming companies do lose quite a bit of money but not that much that it would cripple them and make them bankrupt.

I dont really have an issue with private servers especially for MMORPGs. One of the biggest draws to that type of games is a large community which private servers usually lack. Plus in my experience private servers are rarely as good as the official ones. They are usually plagued with many more bugs and they have more down time. If private server players become frustrated with that they're more likely to pay for the real deal. Also, some private server players would never pay for retail anyway so the "loss" that companies suffer do to them is much likely relatively low.

Private servers are good for sure, you can play the game 4 free. BUT the bad side is that there will always be more hackers on private servers than on the original game.

Yea but today's anti hacking features have become very advanced I really don't see a lot of people hacking anymore on the private servers.
Before you could hack much more easily.

And there are hackers on original servers it's just that they are much more protected from the anti hacking measures.

Me? Well I don't mind private servers, I mean I used to play on a WoW private server. The problem with private servers is that it can get it a bit boring since everything is handed to you.

But, I like how private servers are mostly free giving a little taster into the game.

In my opinion, privates servers are right to exist. They're just like any other business. If it's not official, it will go worse than the official and those who really want to play a well scripted game will go for the original server. It also puts those developpers work on their own servers and maybe gain some money, while the players play freely but don't have access to the full game's utility. I believe the future of gaming is free-to-play games. One example is League of Legends. Of course, you can have access to special features for paying , but this should not influence the game experience.
